The Veldheer, Long, Mackay & Bernecker Group provides wealth management services to affluent families and institutions. Based on their expertise and training, this team of advisors has been accredited and certified by Merrill Lynch as an Institutional Consulting Group to provide consulting services to:

Along with the global resources of Merrill Lynch, we are structured to provide customized consulting using an open architectural platform to help clients articulate their goals, then guide them with appropriate strategies for investments, lending, wealth transfer, and philanthropy with particular emphasis on tax minimization and wealth preservation. By formally reviewing and understanding a client’s total assets and liabilities, we are able to develop customized solutions to address their unique needs and challenges.

TEAM MEMBERS

Each of the Wealth Management Advisors in the VLMB Group has earned his Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA®) designation from the Investment Management Consultants Association in conjunction with the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Jim Veldheer, CIMA®, CRPC®, CFM, First Vice President - Investments, Wealth Management Advisor, has been with Merrill Lynch for 18 years. He is a graduate of Aquinas College and attended Grand Valley State University for graduate studies. Jim has been active with Hospice of Michigan, the YMCA, and the Forest Hills Eastern Athletic Boosters. Jim and his wife Mary have three children and live in Ada, Michigan.

Timothy J. Long, CIMA®, CFM, First Vice President - Investments, Wealth Management Advisor has been with Merrill Lynch for 14 years. He attended Hope College, graduated from the University of Michigan and earned his MBA from St. John’s University. Tim has been involved with the VanAndel Institute, Ada Christian Foundation, and the Grand Rapids Public Museum. Tim and his wife Kim have four active children and live in Ada, Michigan.

William S. Mackay, CIMA®, First Vice President - Investments, Wealth Management Advisor has been at Merrill Lynch for 14 years. He works with faith based organizations, pensions, foundations, endowments, family offices and other organizations on managing their various investments. Bill holds a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame and studied law at the University of Michigan. Bill and his wife Amy have two children and live in East Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Scott D. Bernecker, CFP®, CIMA®, CFM, First Vice President - Investments, Wealth Management Advisor, a graduate of Michigan State University, has been with Merrill Lynch for 11 years. His CFP® certification was awarded by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. Scott currently sits on the board of directors of the West Michigan Sports Commission. Scott and his wife Natalie are very active in the West Michigan community and live with their three boys in East Grand Rapids, Michigan.

David C. Whitford, CFP®, CIMA®, is an Assistant Vice President with Merrill Lynch’s Global Wealth Management Group. He has been with Merrill Lynch for 12 years and is a graduate of the Engineering College at the University of Michigan. His CFP® certification was awarded by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. Dave has been involved with a number of non-profit organizations and currently sits on the board of the Humane Society of Kent County. He and his wife Stephanie live in East Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Kurt Hazlewood, Assistant Vice President, Senior Investment Associate, has been at Merrill Lynch for 12 years. He oversees the client relationship management for the team’s private family office and institutional consulting relationships. He coordinates the complex operational affairs with investment managers, outside custodians and within Merrill Lynch itself. Kurt holds both a BBA and an MBA from Grand Valley State University. Kurt, his wife Sara, and two daughters live in Rockford, Michigan.

Gregory Bosch, a Registered Client Associate, joined Merrill Lynch in 2006. Greg focuses on assisting the team's investment professionals in meeting client needs by monitoring, analyzing, and researching current and potential investment options for the group. He obtained a BS in Engineering from Grand Valley State University and earned his MBA from Western Michigan University. Greg, his wife and three children live in Grandville, Michigan.
