Corey’s path to Merrill Lynch goes a long way to defining his values and the devotion he offers clients. Growing up in a family that struggled to survive financially, Corey saw “wealth” as an idea that existed only in the abstract, and that “money” often caused fear and sadness. Paying his way through college, Corey became the first in his family to graduate from a major university. Not surprisingly, he chose San Diego State University because it offered a Bachelor’s degree in Financial Services with a concentration in financial planning. Corey is one of a handful of advisors that holds that degree.
Today, Corey is celebrating his tenth year as a financial advisor and relationships with clients that extend to their friends and generations of their families. Clients include individuals and couples beginning to accumulate wealth, business owners and their employees, as well as those nearing retirement looking to satisfy their visions of rewarding lifestyles and legacies.
For Corey, building strong relationships with clients is critical before building integrated financial strategies on their behalf. Asking about their long-term plans, everyday concerns, and desire to be involved in frequent financial decisions, Corey can appreciate “where clients are coming from, what makes them tick, and where they want to go.”
Once a client’s goals are identified and prioritized, Corey develops a customized strategy designed to enhance both sides of their balance sheet – assets and liabilities. In fact, a key reason Corey joined Merrill Lynch was the ability to offer clients access to credit and lending through Bank of America, N.A. In addition, with tax efficiency always important to Corey and clients, he coordinates with their CPAs and attorneys on matters of wealth transfer and tax-minimization strategies.
Corey explains, “I’ve always had an eye for detail and making sure that distinct aspects of a client’s financial picture are never ignored. If I can reduce a client’s portfolio risk, improve their cash flow or use of credit, I’m doing my job.”
As a Senior Portfolio Advisor, Corey can help clients pursue their objectives by managing on a discretionary basis custom investment strategies, selecting from a wide range of Merrill Lynch model portfolios and third-party investment strategies.
While earning his degree in Financial Services, Corey was the President of San Diego State’s student body chapter for the Financial Planning Association and worked directly with the National Financial Planning Association. At that time, Corey also held an internship at MetLife in its Financial Planning Division working with holders of the CFP® certification.
Corey’s active outdoor lifestyle takes him backcountry snowboarding, to the golf course, and throughout Scottsdale on long walks with Ranger, his three year-old Boxer. Forever mindful of the value of sharing financial knowledge, Corey volunteers at local high schools teaching basic finance.
