Meet the Team

Supported by the global resources of Merrill, our team is comprised of talented and experienced individuals committed to building strong client relationships based on trust and personalized service.

Where do we begin? It starts with you.

At Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, your financial advisor focuses on the things you care about most- family, goals and priorities - even as they change over the years.

Understanding Your Life

Butler Group

If you are a financial sponsor, have a family office, or own a business, it is likely that you have encountered—or will encounter—significant complexity in your financial affairs. The ultra-high-net-worth space is rife with decision points—what to do, when to do it, what to avoid, and what to think about.

Accomplished clients look to our team, the Butler Group, for evenhanded advice and unwavering loyalty in weighing these decisions. Our founder, Bill Butler, grew up in Indiana, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, flew SH-60B “Seahawk” helicopter before and after the September 11th attack, completed his M.B.A., and then began his wealth management career in 2005.

Bill’s background is distinctive, as is his perspective. He brings a cool headedness to important decisions, helping clients think long-term about the trajectory of their lives, their businesses, and their families. With more than 15 years of experience guiding clients who have achieved notable success, Bill believes there’s not much he hasn’t seen. If he doesn’t have an immediate answer for a client, he is confident he will find someone in his network who can help.

If you believe your wealth would benefit from sustained focus, or if you’d like to regain precious time by delegating the management of your financial affairs, please reach out to us using the red “Contact Us” button at the top of this page. We are eager to discuss how our capabilities align with your interests and needs.

Accustomed to Sophisticated Needs

The clients who engage our team tend to have sophisticated needs that span multiple touchpoints of their wealth. These relationships, we find, allow us to add the most value. We work with a limited number of clients, offering the intensive guidance and one-on-one sensibility that allow us to lead demanding initiatives from beginning to end.

Client needs are top of mind – not just during quarterly or annual meetings but infusing our day-to-day processes and routines. We strive to be the preeminent wealth manager to ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families—a goal that requires the best of our mindpower, energy, and spirit, day in and day out. We welcome high standards on behalf of the clients we serve. We hold those same standards ourselves.

We have extensive experience work with an accomplished clientele:

1.       Private equity principals look to our team for assistance with their fund operations, including banking, capital markets, and credit services, as well as private wealth management.

2.       Business owners look to us for guidance in structuring and optimizing their business, often in preparation for a liquidity event.

3.       Family offices look to us to advance a unified approach to investing, next-generation stewardship and wealth transfer, philanthropy, and customized credit.

Whatever the source of a client’s wealth, we offer a degree of customization and attention that we believe is unique. Undaunted by complexity, we strive to make each client’s financial life more efficient, advancing measurable progress toward meaningful priorities, not only for the clients we serve, but for the people and causes that add richness to their lives.

Every relationship begins with a conversation, helping you identify and prioritize which goals matter most to you. Whether it's transferring wealth to the next generation, customizing your financial approach to help you pursue your passions, or providing advice and guidance to help you stay informed, we start by listening to learn more about you and your family.

Your approach to investing

Drawing upon research in the field of behavioral finance, Merrill developed the Investment Personality Assessment to help us get to know you better as an investor and potentially help you refine your own investing preferences. By gaining a deeper understanding of how you think and feel about investing through this assessment, we can customize the financial approach we develop together to help you pursue what matters most to you. Our Investment Personality Assessment is one of the ways to help us get to know you - to understand your goals and priorities. These questions will help us provide you with additional insights and resources.

Understanding your goals and priorities

Your life and goals change. We have tools to help you keep track of these changes so they can be reflected in your financial approach.

Merrill’s process is designed to help deliver a customized, comprehensive experience to assist you not only in wealth accumulation and preservation, but in areas that go beyond investments. Providing you with access to the investment insights of Merrill, trust and fiduciary services from Bank of America Private Bank, and the banking and lending solutions of Bank of America offers a way to help you manage all of the pieces of your financial life. Working one-on-one with a Merrill advisor means you have a single point of contact to help you with potential strategies for transferring wealth to the younger generation.

Focus On Individuals, Families and Small Businesses

We believe that financial success can be achieved when you’re able to make investment-related decisions and trade-offs that can help you reach personally meaningful goals. Whether you’re planning your retirement, saving to buy a home or funding a child’s education, the process begins by getting to know you and how you feel about the following:

  • Health: Managing healthcare expenses, now and in the future
  • Home: Upsizing, downsizing, remodeling or buying a vacation home
  • Family: Taking care of your family and other people in your life
  • Leisure: Spending your free time in meaningful ways
  • Giving: Volunteering, mentoring others and giving to charities
  • Work: Working in retirement, selling or starting a business
  • Finance: Bringing it all together and defining your financial goals

Success will be measured by the amount of progress you are making toward reaching your goals, making thoughtfully considered adjustments as events and conditions warrant.
