Since 1987, Heather Gottlich has provided highly personalized wealth management for a loyal circle of high-net-worth individuals and generations of their families. Today, clients include investment bankers, private business owners, serial entrepreneurs, C-suite executives (many with restricted stock), and a growing number of divorced women.
“I take pride in the clientele I serve and the manner in which I serve them. In fact, before it became an expression, I was ‘all in’ – working to appreciate clients’ financial and personal goals. From there, I can manage and enhance their wealth using innovative and integrated strategies,” Heather explains. “Mine is a detailed planning-based approach in which a client’s strategy is re-visited frequently, to see if conditions or goals have changed.”
By talking with clients at length about asset allocation, Heather believes that clients worry less about market fluctuation. “Fewer calls during periods of volatility tell me clients understand what we’ve implemented,” Heather points out. “Often, we don’t just focus long-term, but on a key milestone – setting aside certain assets to generate income for a child’s destination wedding or first home, a client’s second home, or a family foundation. It feels good to help people enjoy the real-world benefits of wealth.”
Through all kinds of market conditions, Heather has sought to minimize downside risk in client portfolios by focusing on portfolio diversification, hedging strategies, cash management, and liability management. Since arriving at Merrill Lynch, Heather has provided clients with access to Bank of America, N.A. for residential, securities-based, and commercial real estate lending.
Heather’s desire to assist people is reflected in her active membership in the non-profit, Wife.org (Women’s Institute for Financial Education). Heather holds Second SaturdayLA.com divorce workshops in the Beverly Hills and Santa Monica areas that offer unbiased legal, financial and emotional advice from prominent local professionals (attorneys, accountants, marriage and family therapists). The goal is to provide the knowledge, support, and resources that can prove financially and emotionally beneficial during the divorce process.
“Trust comes with familiarity,” Heather says. “And familiarity comes with my effort to stay in touch with clients. Honest conversations are critical with a couple or a divorced person – whether we discuss a lifetime income stream, Social Security, a family trust, or even the merits of a car lease. Details also matter. Early on, I encourage clients to keep notebooks with their wills, trusts, and notes in one place. Clients deserve that I help optimize their wealth, and help simplify their lives.”
|Heather is devoted to keeping clients educated and updated. In addition to meeting with clients frequently, she has been to each client’s home. Her commitment to know clients well extends to their family members. This becomes especially helpful when matters of a family trust, for example, are best explained to all stakeholders.
Heather is a qualified Portfolio Manager who, in addition to providing traditional advice and guidance, can help clients pursue their objectives by building and managing his own personalized or defined strategies, which may incorporate individual stocks and bonds, Merrill Lynch model portfolios, and third-party investment strategies. When servicing clients through the firm’s Investment Advisory Program, a Portfolio Manager may manage his or her strategies on a discretionary basis.
Heather lives in Malibu with her husband, Russ, and their two children. High energy inside and outside the office, Heather enjoys kayaking, hiking and biking in the mountains. Giving back to the community that has given her so much, Heather supports several area charities including California Wildlife Center, Boys and Girls Club of Malibu, Wife.org, City of Hope and Jewish Family Services.
I follow the deep-seated Merrill Lynch tradition of participating in the communities we serve. This drives my interest in spending time volunteering with organizations in our community.

*Peace of mind is an aspirational state of mind that clients hope to achieve. There are no guaranteed results following completion of the Goals-Based Wealth Management process because markets can fluctuate and investments can lose value. Advisors work with clients to help them understand how the goals based wealth management process can help to address their concerns, financial situation and priorities.
