Given his strong background in the corporate world and wealth management, Jeff has come to serve a loyal and accomplished clientele by applying intellectual rigor, fully customized strategies, and attentive service. Jeff’s clients span generations and the nation’s geography – including many successful couples approaching retirement in California, Georgia and more than 15 other states.
Jeff is proud to be “brutally” honest in telling clients what they need to hear, not necessarily what they want to hear. He is also proud of what he calls his “boring portfolios for fascinating clients.” Jeff believes it’s incumbent on him to help clients sleep at night by protecting them from market volatility and from their emotions surrounding money.
A self-described “helpful nag,” Jeff keeps in frequent contact with clients – reminding them to do what they should, whether it’s talking to their attorney or accountant about an outstanding issue, creating a will, a trust, or looking into long-term care insurance.
With his rare combination of credentials and skillsets, Jeff can work on a continuous basis with each client – from the exploration and goal-setting step of their relationship, through the formulation, implementation and review of their retirement plan and investment strategy.
Jeff holds the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ CFP® certification, a designation awarded by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. He also holds the Certified Private Wealth Advisor® designation, administered by the Investments & Wealth Institute™ (The Institute).
When it comes to investing, Jeff does what many advisors do not. He builds each client’s risk-managed portfolio individually – primarily with equities, bonds and ETFs. Using Merrill research and in frequent contact with the firm’s sector analysts, he has a buy-and-hold mentality that favors high-quality companies.
At the heart of Jeff’s investment philosophy is his deep understanding of how companies work and make money. With more than 15 years spent at technology and telecom enterprises, Jeff’s familiarity with corporate balance sheets, for example, drives his analytical approach. Sharing his knowledge with clients, he has helped them navigate the volatility of 2008 and 2020 with an emphasis on fact-based decisions and a focus on long-term goals.
Jeff launched his wealth management career in 2002 at Smith Barney, before joining Merrill in 2005. Jeff holds a Bachelor’s degree from University of California, Davis, where he double-majored in Economics and French. Later, he earned an MBA from University of California, Berkeley, where he continues to take courses today.
Jeff and his wife, Kate, have four adult children and reside in Alamo, California. A lover of exercise in any form, Jeff runs trails on Saturday mornings and plays basketball on Sunday mornings. To “relax,” he enjoys traveling to Europe – especially France, where he and Kate each spent a year while in college.
