Mary Robinson Carter is a Wealth Management Advisor and President of the Washington D.C. Chapter of the Women's Exchange at Merrill. Mary looks to create lasting value in clients' financial lives, helping people resolve issues, uncover possible efficiencies, weigh crucial decisions, and plan for the future. She brings high expectations to her work and her team, fostering an environment that demonstrates each client's importance through her care, customization, and attentiveness.
Clients from varied paths look to Mary for assistance. Some are partners, C-Suite executives, and business owners who appreciate the time she creates in their schedules by simplifying the intersection of their personal and professional wealth. Coming from the tech and start-up world, many of her clients look to her for guidance on managing stock concentrations, IPOs, RSUs, and other forms of executive compensation. Other clients include retirees, women, and widows. They sense Mary's genuine interest in helping them organize their wealth, reduce stress, and grow confident as decision-makers. Still, others include investors who have traditionally managed their portfolios but recognize the value of having a trustworthy resource for the years ahead, either to reduce their own time commitments or to nurture a reliable relationship for their loved ones. Finally, nonprofit institutions engage Mary's assistance to support their obligations concerning fiduciary asset management.
Very active in her community, Mary has volunteered with the Ronald McDonald House for years. In addition, she often participates in mission trips with her church and volunteers to give food and clothing to the homeless in the D.C. metropolitan area. She also is a member of the Executive Board for Coco Coalition. This nonprofit organization is devoted to improving the quality of life of black women through mental health and education resources. Eager to give back, she volunteers with Together We Bake and teaches a wealth planning course and financial education classes for abused and underrepresented women looking to re-enter the workforce and move towards self-sufficiency.
As the daughter of a West Point graduate, Mary often moved around a lot in early childhood. Now, she is proud to have put down roots in Fort Washington, MD, with her husband, Brandon Carter. In her free moments, Mary loves listening to live music, hosting friends at her home, gardening, and traveling. As a former Olympic Weight Lifting and cross-fit enthusiast, Mary now enjoys doing physical activities like pilates, boxing, and hiking.
