At The Keller, Spedaliere and Langley Wealth Management Group, clients come to us for different reasons – and with different expectations.

Still, we do our best work for people who want, need and value thoughtful advice – and those who welcome a highly personalized and proactive approach. By asking questions, we learn. And by learning from clients, we can understand the roles they’d like us to play.

For us, wealth management is a family business. We’ve each been mentored by our founder, Dr. Arnold Keller, and have spent decades working together. We’ve also pursued rigorous industry training and share our love of learning with clients and their entire families. In fact, our varied ages and backgrounds allow us to work well with clients’ grown children and their elderly parents. Above all, we treat clients like members of our families and serve generations of theirs. Referrals have led to a growing circle of clients in 24 states.

Who do we serve? A diverse clientele – active and retired physicians, attorneys, successful business owners and others who can benefit from enlightened perspectives that engage them, their spouses, and children. Going well beyond investment management, we structure integrated strategies that may include liability management, intergenerational wealth planning and more.

We often remind clients, “The more we know about you, the more we can do for you.” Through frequent and friendly conversations, we find that clients feel comfortable opening up – about their concerns and dreams (financial and personal). This, we believe, reflects our familiarity with clients, how often we speak, and how well we listen.

Our Heritage

Dr. Arnold Keller was a college professor who believed that fundamentals and due diligence were vital to constructing and managing sound investment portfolios. After earning his doctorate at Columbia University and teaching for more than 20 years, Arnold founded our practice in 1979 – forging relationships with client families that continue today. Arnold’s daughter, Deborah (a principal in our group) joined him in 1996 after launching her career in 1984.

Becoming a financial advisor did not keep Arnold from educating. In fact, Arnold mentored Deborah and, ultimately, Mark Spedaliere and Jonathan Langley (who initially joined the team as interns in 1998 and 2001, respectively) – reminding us that all clients deserve exemplary service and thoughtful investment guidance. Arnold not only trained and mentored the team, but clients as well – mailing out relevant research at a time when it wasn’t easily obtainable by the general public.

In many respects, Arnold was ahead of his time. Rather than working only with the heads of client households, Arnold believed in serving entire families and examining the consequences of strategies and decisions on intergenerational wealth.

Since retiring in 2016, Arnold continues to passionately to create opportunities for underprivileged children. His legacy continues through our efforts to enlighten clients and serve their best interests with sincerity and integrity.

This simple statement reflects our attention to each client’s concerns, circumstances and aspirations. We believe that, by being consistent and caring, we can help bolster clients’ financial and emotional wellbeing.

We also believe that:

• Asking clients the right questions is critical to answering their needs, “What lifestyle do you envision five or ten years from now? What legacy would you like to leave for your children? What do you want from our relationship – and how often do you want to hear from us?”

• We can’t control the markets, but we can control the manner and frequency with which we talk to clients. In addition to helping manage clients’ investment risk, we work to manage their expectations. That’s why we remind clients to focus on their objectives, not industry benchmarks.

• The value of an advisor should be measured by the decisions he or she helps a client make – and by the lifestyles and legacies that clients may someday enjoy. On a given day, we may confer with clients on transferring wealth and minimizing taxes, saving for college, a special needs trust, caring for aging parents, or long-term care considerations. These real-life situations are why we encourage clients to call for our recommendations, or simply a second opinion. 

Each of us relishes the opportunity to celebrate with clients – their anniversaries, graduations, weddings, retirements, and other cherished milestones. It’s also our privilege to assist entire client families, by orchestrating “family meetings” to discuss a trust matter or business succession. Keeping everyone on the same page – and keeping ourselves updated – are essential to doing our jobs well.

What Clients Can Expect

At The Keller, Spedaliere and Langley Wealth Management Group, experience tells us that successful individuals share the need for a highly personalized, planning-based approach. Ours examines distinct aspects of client wealth including areas that may have been ignored previously, such as estate planning issues and liability management. To align our strategies, we work closely with clients’ CPAs and attorneys. We believe clients are pleasantly surprised by the breadth and depth of our approach.

As seasoned financial advisors, we believe that we’re also seen as “life advisors” – bringing continuity and care to clients during good and bad times, when fact-based decisions can preserve their most cherished goals. Creating a sense of transparency and trust is important to us.
 
When it comes to portfolio management, we ask about each client’s experience with investing, their attitude toward risk, and more. Based on their feedback, we will formulate a client’s portfolio with a blend of asset classes – using the outstanding research of BofA Global Research, the firm’s investment models, and our own. Dr. Arnold Keller, our founder, instilled in us the importance of “hitting singles and doubles” – rather than swinging for homeruns and risky upside potential. Looking to mitigate downside risk, we want to help clients preserve and enhance their wealth, in accordance with their goals and attitudes toward wealth and the world.
