Linking Your Family Mission to Your Investments

Creating the appropriate investment strategy for each client is not just about the numbers. As we work with you to create a family legacy strategy, we help you to prioritize what your family may want to accomplish and to identify what matters most in your life. We talk about philanthropic considerations offered through Bank of America and the need for income generation to provide the funding for specific family goals. This is a highly personal process that ultimately evolves into a customized roadmap linking the family mission to your investment strategy.

Creating the Roadmap
We start by gaining an understanding of all aspects of your financial life. Managing wealth is similar to managing a business. Through a disciplined process that encompasses a holistic approach to strategies and data analysis, we can work with the professionals that are a part of clients' lives to evaluate the complete picture. We evaluate past net cash flows and utilize projections to understand operating, investing, and, through Bank of America, financing aspects of a client's life. We focus on understanding the short- and long-term objectives and utilize our software to evaluate both the current risk exposures of the family and the expected volatility of returns. We seek to educate the next generation of the family to help develop appropriate financial decision making and foster the sustainability of a legacy. We want families to feel that, although they face many financial challenges, our team is here to support them as we help them manage their day-to-day responsibilities and develop wealth management strategies, allowing the family to continue in the pursuit of their own pleasures.

Develop a Strategy
We believe that all aspects of a family's financial life should be involved in the development of a strategy. This step involves understanding the current estate structure, effective tax rates and how to maximize a legacy to the family both during their lifetimes, and to the beneficiaries of their estate. Equally evaluating all assets beyond financial, including social, intellectual, and human, are important when developing the strategy for the family. For owners of privately held businesses, we help develop exit strategies and utilize resources within and outside of the firm to help them as they pursue their financial and personal goals.

Segmentation
With your individual goals in mind, we help to group assets into three main categories: lifetime working assets, wealth surplus and aspirational wealth. By doing so, we can help clients to implement an investment strategy with the appropriate levels of risk to each category and seek to minimize the volatility experienced by each category of wealth.

Due Diligence
We believe access to the top intellectual resources within our firm is a valuable asset for clients, including a dedicated due diligence team, such as Merrill Lynch's Investment Management and Guidance (IMG) group. The due diligence carried out by IMG helps the client to understand the current macro environment of the investment world and individual manager strategies implemented within their portfolio.

Customized Service Model
Your life is complex and time is valuable. We believe it is our responsibility to customize a service model that gives clients the freedom and flexibility to focus on their aspirations. We guide you in developing appropriate investment strategies and implementing long-term wealth management strategies, and we offer access to Merrill Lynch services, such as bill payment and concierge services, and access to total banking capabilities offered by Bank of America, N.A. Throughout our relationship, we will customize a service model that allows you to take advantage of those services you would value and create a contact management strategy to be most effective in our communications together.

Reviewing Your Progress
Through the initial steps of our team's engagement process, just as a business will model outcomes for future years, our team will help develop barometers of progress for successive years. These barometers may include the development of wealth management strategies, they may include savings objectives, funding objectives and investment return goals. By outlining relationship objectives in this manner, a family is better able to evaluate the contribution of our team to their progress.

If requested, we can also meet with accountants and attorneys who are part of your family's circle of trusted advisors. Communication is the lynchpin to strong, multigenerational client relationships. In addition to the ongoing interaction we have with clients, we recognize that communication within client families is an integral part of effective wealth management. Developing Client Educational Forums

In addition to financial education, the Halsey-Collins Group delivers educational programs on select topics of interest including health care expense issues, social security, next generation concerns and lifestyle trends.These programs may be developed for a next generation audience, for a single family, a select group of clients or for all clients and are delivered in multiple formats—e.g., face-to-face seminars or conference calls.
