“We often share our personal experiences with clients, especially during ‘delicate’ conversations,” Elizabeth Krisko points out. “Clients may be conflicted about supporting a grown child, what they can spend during retirement, or purchasing a second home. We engage with both spouses whenever possible, listen carefully, and try to educate in ways that their previous advisor did not. Clients need to feel informed and comfortable with a strategy that’s been crafted on their behalf.”
When it comes to investing, The Rachlin Group begins by examining each client’s appetite for risk, timeline, goals, need for liquidity, and investments held elsewhere. Each client’s portfolio is then formulated using Merrill Lynch research and the firm’s model portfolios. Depending on a client’s preference for growth or steady income, their portfolio may span asset classes, sectors and borders.
In serving to three generations of client families, a hallmark of the team is its determination to enhance intergenerational wealth and areas of clients’ financial picture that require closer examination. “I look for ‘potholes’ in clients’ plans – the gap between what they envision and how well they’ve prepared. Often, we discuss long-term care and disability insurance, Social Security strategies and Medicare. I’ve helped clients compare everything from assisted-living facilities and charitable trusts to college savings plans.”
To help create tax minimization and estate planning strategies, the team may coordinate with clients’ CPAs and attorneys, as well as U.S. Trust specialists. And because residential, securities-based and structured lending can benefit clients, access is provided to Bank of America, N.A.
