From first-generation Americans to generations of families residing in Michigan and 25 other states, our clients have accumulated assets that reflect their hard work and perseverance. But that’s where similarities end. As our client, you’ve taken your own path to success – and have distinct concerns and ambitions. That’s why it’s incumbent on us to develop a clear notion of your accomplishments, passions, and attitude toward wealth.

Inherent in everything we do is our oath to be completely honest with you, at all times. If what you envision is not likely attainable, we will certainly tell you. Conversely, if your goals are quite easily within reach, we will outline what you can likely afford going forward – as long as you follow a carefully prescribed financial strategy. We believe that many clients have become our close friends as a result of mutual respect and the trust they place in us.

How do we learn? By listening to our firm’s thought leaders and especially, to you, our client. In fact, we don’t assume anything about you. We listen closely to what you say (and often, don’t say). Our goal is to deliver wise financial guidance that is responsive and responsible. Anything less is less than you deserve.

While we begin with in-depth planning-related discussions, we will continue to ask questions – to explore how your situation and aspirations change. WHAT CLIENTS CAN EXPECT
At The Maxson-Huang Wealth Management Group, we take pride in structuring practical, tactical and timely strategies that blend our deep knowledge with that of global Merrill Lynch thought leadership and local resources.

As our client, you will receive a degree of acumen and attention that may surprise you. Unlike many advisory groups – perhaps, your previous one – we don’t offer “cookie-cutter” financial strategies because we don’t have “cookie-cutter” clients. For this reason, we:

  • Select investments that reflect our assessment of you, along with your stated short- and long-term objectives, risk tolerance, liquidity needs, and investment timeline. We incorporate these and other considerations into an overall wealth management strategy.

  • Look at “holes” in your financial picture. Perhaps long-term care, life, key man, or other forms of insurance can help safeguard your wealth. In some cases, updating your beneficiaries is all that’s needed.

  • Communicate clearly and honestly. We have long pushed for other advisors to be more straightforward with clients and use simple explanations. Many of our clients are fascinated with the details of their strategies and we’re happy to explain how we think, what they own and why. For all clients, we recognize their time constraints and confidence in our ability to manage the intricacies of complex financial issues.

  • Help you understand your retirement spending needs, before you retire – dividing likely expenditures into needs (food, property taxes, health care, etc.) and wants (dining, traveling, gifting, etc.). When it comes to investments, we may use “endowment investment theory” to help you secure a predictable income stream through retirement with a risk-managed portfolio diversified across asset classes.

  • Can coordinate with your CPA and attorney to align our efforts when building a tax-minimization and estate planning strategy.

  • Provide access to residential, commercial and securities-based lending by connecting you with specialists at Bank of America, N.A.

By understanding the dynamics of each client’s family and business life, their personal concerns and objectives, we can provide highly effective wealth management strategies that satisfy desires for retirement lifestyles, family legacies, as well as business succession and charitable wishes.

Who do we serve? A loyal and growing number of clients in 25 states. Many are automotive, medical and private equity executives, engineers, business owners (as well as their retirement plans and employees), attorneys, physicians, corporate entities, and generations of clients’ families scattered far and wide.

A majority of clients are referred to us when retirement decisions are looming. Often, taking a lump sum distribution is top of mind. We feel it’s always best to take a fresh look at what may lie ahead: What do they want to accomplish in retirement? What’s their experience managing wealth and, specifically, investing? Do they want to move to a warmer climate, travel with family, support a worthy cause, or all three? In most cases, we create personal income and spending strategies – so that clients can enjoy more predictable retirement lifestyles without being concerned about short-term market fluctuation.

On a personal note, we draw inspiration not only from clients who’ve created their own wealth, but also from their grown and growing children. It is particularly rewarding to help educate “the next generation” so that wise financial habits can contribute to lifetimes of financial fulfillment.

In the same way we scrutinize aspects of each client’s wealth and expectations, we evaluate our own efforts and performance:

  • Have we been completely honest telling a client that he or she needs to “step up their savings” or “set more realistic goals” for retirement? We want people to feel comfortable, not anxious – by providing advice and guidance that is straightforward and helpful.

  • Are we “looking everywhere” possible – in multiple areas, such as credit, lending, insurance, and estate planning – to help a client brighten his or her financial picture and optimize long-term results?

  • Are we fulfilling the deep responsibility we believe we have to each client and their family?

These questions remind us that our roles involve more than dollars and cents. Each day (and many evenings), we work to enhance and preserve the quality of clients’ lives, lifestyles, and legacies.

As part of what we call “our hands-on, ears-open” approach, we maintain frequent contact with you and your spouse (whenever possible) as well as with your CPA and attorney (when helpful).

Whether we meet you in your office or ours, at your kitchen table, or initially at a seminar, the rigor and regularity of our friendly service model gives us ongoing insight into what you may be experiencing or expecting.
 
By listening intently to you, we can help where a previous advisor may have fallen short – especially, during important transitions: the loss of a spouse, the disability of a loved one, a divorce, job change, the sale of a business, an inheritance, or the early days of retirement. At these times, it’s critical to make informed decisions, rather than emotional ones.
