John H. Hemmens is a senior financial advisor addressing the needs of privately held companies, business owners and wealthy individuals. John focuses on employee retirement plan administration and individual wealth management. He consults with trustees on qualified 401(k) profit sharing plans and pension plans, as well as non-qualified deferred compensation plans and assists trustees in recognizing and addressing fiduciary liability issues through proper plan design and appropriate employee education and communication. Where appropriate, advanced plan design is used to maximize contributions for key personnel. Utilizing an open architecture platform, John can access multiple service providers, allowing for flexibility in plan design, cost and structure. John uses a defined service model focused around an Investment Strategy to manage the investment fund menu, identify fiduciary and regulatory issues and assist the plan sponsor's to manage the plan more effectively. John also uses an education policy statement to deliver targeted communication to participants.
John is committed to delivering Merrill Lynch Wealth Management services to individual investors, successful professionals, business owners and corporate executives. John is a qualified Portfolio Manager who, in addition to providing traditional advice and guidance, can help clients pursue their objectives by building and managing his own personalized or defined strategies, which may incorporate individual stocks and bonds, Merrill Lynch model portfolios, and third-party investment strategies. When servicing clients through the firm’s Investment Advisory Program, a Portfolio Manager may manage strategies on a discretionary basis. John uses proprietary model portfolios and tailors investment strategies to the clients unique needs and goals. Utilizing Merrill Lynch research, as well as non-proprietary research, John creates strategic allocation portfolios designed to attain client’s long term goals|John joined Merrill Lynch in the spring of 2001 after spending fifteen years in the commercial banking industry as a Vice President with Bank of America managing corporate relationships of privately held businesses. Since joining Merrill Lynch John has focused on corporate retirement benefit plans including, 401(k) Plans, Profits Sharing Plans, Defined Benefit Plans, as well as Non-Qualified Deferred Compensation Plans. John assists trustees in recognizing and addressing fiduciary liability issues through a dedicated service model that addresses proper plan design, investment selection, performance evaluation, asset allocation, plan administration and appropriate employee education and communication. John provides advice and guidance to individual plan participants and assists them in identifying their retirement needs and creating a strategy to help them achieve their retirement goals.
John holds the Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor designation granted by the College for Financial Planning. He also holds the designation of C(k)P® from The Retirement Advisor University UCLA Anderson School Executive Education. John's services extends to the needs of individual investors. By providing thoughtful advice and guidance, John manages investment portfolios for successful individual investors, business owners and plan participants. Utilizing the depth of Merrill Lynch, John is able to provide investment management services to help individuals identify retirement goals and cash flow needs. Through an ongoing research process John structures and manages investment portfolios with the objective of maintaining appropriate risk exposure and minimizing tail risk through the use of alternative investment strategies. John utilizes stocks, bonds, mutual funds alternative investments and structured products to create low cost, efficient risk adjusted portfolios.
John earned his BA and his MBA degrees in Finance and Investments from Rutgers University. John has earned the designation of CRPC® Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor from the College for Financial Planning. John holds the FINRA Series 7, FINRA Series 66 and life insurance registrations. John lives in Branchburg, New Jersey with his wife Christine and two daughters. He is an avid skier, and golfer and tennis player.
