Jay has been a part of the financial services industry since 1992 and joined Merrill Lynch in June of 2010. He focuses on clients’ goals and concerns, offering the goals-based wealth management process, global resources and up-to-the-moment Web technology that complement his ability to help clients pursue the financial lifestyle that is most meaningful to them.

Jay is a problem solver who works to simplify high-net-worth clients’ financial lives. He assists clients in identifying and prioritizing their various goals—including estate planning services, education funding, investments, tax minimization strategies, wealth transfer and retirement income—then developing strategies that may be customized to suit their personal circumstances and their own unique feelings and attitudes. He is also a firm believer in paying close attention to both sides of a client’s balance sheet, which is why he offers access to a Wealth Management Lending Officer from Bank of America, N.A., who can draw upon an expansive array of cash management, credit and other lending solutions designed to fit into overall investment strategies. Clients and their needs are more complex than our industry has acknowledged. Traditional wealth management relies heavily on asset class optimization. Its task is to find the best returns for a set of investments at an acceptable level of risk. But this approach often fails to adequately take into account a client’s financial goals and personal priorities.

Goals based wealth management (GBWM) offers a focused, consistent approach that can help uncover a deeper understanding of our client’s goals and priorities, and develop strategies tailored to best achieve each goal. Using this consultative approach, by contrast, our client can take into account unique specifications of the financial dimensions of his or her goals and risk attitude with respect to each goal.

Furthermore, GBWM can be used to manage a client’s personal balance sheet and cash flows to achieve goals that span multiple time horizons and life stages. Since each client goal can have a distinct personal meaning and importance, it is logical that associated risk attitudes vary across goals. Unlike traditional asset allocation, in which accounts and products are managed independently of human capital (earning potential), financial assets and goals, GBWM considers all assets, liabilities and goals together. Consequently, with GBWM, portfolio construction strategies can be customized to each client’s personal needs and preferences. Doing so makes it easier to structure, monitor and adapt the plan of action best suited to each individual client.

Jay is a specially qualified Senior Portfolio Manager who, in addition to providing traditional advice and guidance, can help clients pursue their objectives by building and managing his own personalized or defined strategies, which may incorporate individual stocks and bonds, options, and third-party investment strategies. Senior Portfolio Managers are provided a high degree of flexibility in constructing portfolios and selecting securities. When servicing clients through the firm’s Investment Advisory Program, a Senior Portfolio Manager may manage his strategies on a discretionary basis. After meeting certain additional requirements, a Senior Portfolio Manager may use his own strategies to manage the assets of other Merrill Lynch Advisors’ clients. Jay works to provide an exceptional level of client care and service, and he invites you to contact him to see how his knowledge and service can help meet your financial needs.

Jay began his career in the financial industry with Prudential Securities in 1983 as a technologist. Over the next 10 years Jay worked at JP Morgan & First Boston where he was instrumental in the development of state of the art, computerized portfolio trading systems. In 1992, he joined the Lehman Brothers Investment Banking Division of Shearson Lehman Brothers as a Financial Consultant to offer clients a wide range of financial services. Jay finished first in his training class of 160. In 1994, he was certified as a Portfolio Manager with the Smith Barney's Portfolio Management Group. In June 2008, Jay earned the designation of Chartered Retirement Planning CounselorSM from the College for Financial Planning. In October of 2016, Jay earned the prestigious designation of Certified Private Wealth Advisor® from IMCA.
