At The Murray Peeler Group, we have a heritage and a mission that inspire our best efforts. With decades professional knowledge, we have come to serve a growing number of clients in two distinct groups – individuals and families with significant wealth, as well as institutions (many related to private equity) for whom we help manage retirement plans and provide other banking services.
What sets us apart from many advisory teams is our deep experience working in clients’ industries, as well as the varying ages of our team members. Both contribute to our ability to connect naturally and in meaningful ways with accomplished individuals, generations of client families, entities of different sizes, and employees at different life stages.
From our office in New York, we bring our proactive, pro-client approach to individuals and institutions in 36 states. Whether we visit a client personally or talk by phone, our team members are driven to deliver the “financial sophistication of Wall Street and the “personal sincerity of Main Street.”
If you have time to read the sections that follow, you’ll find that we’re “long” on credentials and have been intact as a team for ten years. Still, we’re more proud of our clientele – financially astute and highly educated people whom we believe are attracted to our aptitude and attitude. On their behalf, we deliver what we believe is a superior level of wealth management – in terms of strategy and service. We look forward to assisting you, as well, with an exceptional level of passion and professionalism.
In addition to wealth management, our extensive backgrounds reach into the business and investment worlds (including broadcast, cable and private equity).
Having attracted many successful individuals and entities in these fields, we can say with certainty that clients are motivated and so are we. In fact, even after decades spent managing people’s wealth and expectations – much of that time as a team – we are passionate about learning, sharing insights, and exchanging ideas with clients. The vast majority are financially sophisticated, yet they stand to benefit from multi-pronged strategies that “fulfill goals and fill holes” in their financial pictures.
Experience also tells us:
Our real-world perspectives on clients’ lives and livelihoods are critical to what we do. Some of us have sent kids to college, while others have graduated in the last five or ten years. Having examined what wealth and wisdom can mean to our own families, we advise clients at different stages of their lives –especially when facing formidable challenges – going through divorce, the loss of a spouse, or a career change. Our patience and professionalism are emblematic of our approach.
Meeting as a group with a prospective client is the best way to explore how a client can benefit from our relationship and which team member is the best fit to be the primary contact. (To provide optimal benefit, we still collaborate internally on strategic recommendations.)
Our value is the kind many clients have not previously received from an advisory team. We have a genuine familiarity with clients’ professions – notably, the corporate world and private equity.
Managing each client’s wealth demands that we understand their mindset and minimize the effects of portfolio risk. Our clients are already successful – they don’t need unnecessary investment risk. They’re better served with a market-savvy approach that aims for consistent, long-term growth.
Our ability to anticipate and embrace “change” in the corporate world guides our investment philosophy. We scrutinize a company’s fundamentals and especially, its management. Still, investments are only part of each thoughtfully crafted, well-insulated strategy we develop. We also connect with clients’ CPAs and attorneys – to align efforts that can address investment, insurance, wealth transfer and liability needs.
At The Murray Peeler Group, our mission is to bring “meaning and metrics” to an affluent clientele that spans generations and the nation’s geography.
For individuals that seek a deeper appreciation of their wealth and its purpose, our highly accomplished and credentialed advisors work to help them make enlightened decisions and remain disciplined in following the strategy that’s been designed on their behalf.
With our multi-generational focus – and the fact our team members’ ages align nicely with those of clients at each life stage – we intently explore family dynamics and the distinct needs of multiple stakeholders. By hosting family meetings and retreats, for example, we gain a genuine sense of what drives clients’ ambitions and concerns. Additionally, we help “the next generation” view the responsibilities and opportunities of family wealth.
Whom do we serve? High-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals – active and retired – along with their families. Our clients include senior partners of private equity and other Wall Street firms, CPA and legal firms, surgeons and other physicians. By taking a team approach and a hands-on role, we not only bring sensitivity to clients, but immediacy. In fact, to assist clients without needless delays or added expense, we may handle responsibilities for which specialists are typically called upon.
When it comes to investments, we believe our success stems from our “highly collaborative” discussions in which we often disagree internally and clients actively participate. Our passion is authentic. And our experience is hard to duplicate. Our recommendations are risk-based and incorporate our research, as well as the macro-view and due diligence of Merrill Lynch Wealth Management. However, that’s where similarities end. For each client, we build a tailored portfolio across asset classes based on multiple factors including their risk tolerance, timeline, liquidity needs and short- and long-term goals.
While clients take distinct paths to our door, the vast majority cares about their families, careers and employees. Most clients have already hit financial home runs. Ultimately, by helping them hit singles, stay liquid and informed, we can contribute to their financial and emotional wellbeing. It’s what we call “wealth-care.”
At The Murray Peeler Group, we assist a growing number of senior partners at private equity firms (and their portfolio companies), legal and CPA firms, and entertainent companies. In addition to managing their personal assets, we play an active role in helping them navigate the selection and implementation of qualified and non-qualified retirement plans.
Typically, an “institutional client” is an individual for whom we previously helped solve a business problem. Having demonstrated our capabilities and established a comfort level with that client, the transition naturally evolves to us serving his or her enterprise.
As a reflection of our competence in educating plan sponsors and helping them uphold their fiduciary responsibilities, two of our team members are among a small handful of Merrill Lynch advisors to hold the title of Retirement Benefits Consultant (RBC). In addition, several other Merrill Lynch financial advisory groups rely on us to handle plans for their clients.
While we usually help formulate a plan early in the life of a firm, many plans we review were designed years ago, perhaps, at a start-up phase. Frequently, we see that clients pay more than necessary, for fewer benefits. Upon examination – and thanks to our firm’s powerful platform – we can help reduce costs while delivering a high-caliber client experience for principals and employees. In addition to our knowledge and skills, we will provide the resources and thought leadership of Bank of America Corporation and its affiliates. This comprehensive approach can help you offer a strong, healthy and fully compliant program that runs smoothly, engages employees, and simplifies your role.
Through Merrill Lynch Fiduciary Plan Services1, we will accept ERISA 3(21) fiduciary responsibility2 for investment advice and recommendations made in the best interest of your plan Investment Policy Statement (IPS)* and investment menu design based on your plan goals and participant needs. We can also provide comprehensive due diligence processes to identify appropriate investment opportunities, as well as proactive delivery – online or through us – of in-depth investment performance reporting each quarter.
To assist your employees in ways that make sense for your firm — strategically, operationally and financially – we will suggest enrollment meetings with them and, thereafter, one-to-one meetings.
We can also provide you with ready access to corporate and other commercial banking services through the middle-market bankers and other specialists at Bank of America, N.A.
Supported by the global resources of Merrill, our team is comprised of talented and experienced individuals committed to building strong client relationships based on trust and personalized service.
