Who We Are

The Mann Sullivan Group combines the intimacy of a boutique family office with the vast investment resources of Merrill Lynch Wealth Management and access to the banking capabilities of Bank of America. Working with a limited number of clients by design, we are able to develop close relationships with the families we serve and take the time to fully understand their specific set of circumstances. This approach enables us to not only address clients’ immediate needs and concerns, but also help them “see around corners” to plan for what might happen in the future.  

Our team focuses on helping families build, preserve, and transfer their wealth by taking a holistic approach to their financial lives, considering not only their investments, but also how they are positioned from a tax, insurance, and estate planning perspective. While we do not provide accounting or legal advice, we work closely with clients’ accountants, attorneys, and other professionals to help ensure that they are able to reach their financial goals over time.  

We believe that the key to a successful wealth management strategy is true customization rooted in a deep understanding of our clients. For us, designing and implementing a cohesive plan is only the first step in a process that will evolve over the years. As life changes around them, we stand ready to help clients navigate increasingly complex issues and make the appropriate decisions to enable them to succeed.  

While strategy execution is of tremendous importance, we focus just as intently on delivering high-touch service in all that we do. Earning our clients’ trust is a commitment that we take very seriously and a responsibility that we are honored to have.

Our wealth management process begins with developing an appreciation of a client’s life, both financially and personally. Grounded in an understanding of their goals and who they are as an investor, we are able to analyze how a client’s wealth is currently positioned and evaluate the best way to move forward to help them accomplish their objectives. 

Working in concert with our clients’ accountants and attorneys, we examine not only asset allocation but also asset location in order to help ensure the most efficient management of clients’ wealth from both an investment and estate planning perspective. We also take into consideration their cash flow needs based on current and projected income and spending levels. This information becomes the foundation upon which we build a personalized wealth management strategy. 

The cornerstone of these financial strategies is diversified investment portfolios that we design to address each client’s specific circumstances and individualized needs. Strategic asset allocations are implemented through several vehicles: portfolios directly managed in a discretionary capacity by our team, selective strategies managed by third-party managers who we believe add unique value in their asset class, as well as exchange traded funds (ETFs) and mutual funds. We have also selectively employed closed end funds, market-linked investments, hedge funds, and private equity where appropriate. Bear in mind that some or all alternative investment programs may not be in the best interest of certain investors. No assurance can be given that any alternative investment’s investment objectives will be achieved.

The initial implementation is only the first step in our investment process. We review portfolios on a periodic basis and, in addition to regular rebalancing, will make tactical changes in response to or in anticipation of changes in the broader markets or in our clients’ lives. These changes are always approached holistically with a focus on tax minimization strategies.

We concentrate on appropriate asset structuring to minimize the impact of estate taxes and work in concert with your attorneys to develop and implement various strategies based on your family’s specific goals. Just as important as ensuring that assets are structured properly, however, is helping the younger generations prepare to step into their roles as stewards of the family’s wealth. Our team works closely with children and grandchildren to help educate them about the basics of personal financial management, tailoring our message to their experience and age. In the transition from student life into adulthood, we help them contextualize their wealth to make prudent decisions about their careers, first homes, and building their own families. And, when the wealth transfer process begins, our team facilitates family meetings to help ensure clear and open communication across the generations.

We help those with meaningful charitable intent develop strategies to accomplish this goal both during life and upon death. Through the creation of donor advised funds, private family foundations, and charitable Trusts in partnership with your attorneys, we can help ensure that the philanthropic legacies of you and your family are preserved.
