While the scope of work we do for clients has evolved over the years – expanding to include a broader constellation of financial, legal, and tax issues – this simple maxim has never been more important.

Our team of experienced financial professionals puts our clients at the center of everything we do while operating in a complex new environment. Philosophy

Our practice is based on wealth management planning, and it is the planning process that ultimately leads to the investment and management of our clients' assets. Our primary portfolio management method is based on Modern Portfolio Theory, though we are generally believers in the weak efficient market hypothesis
 
Every client has a unique risk/reward profile based on his individual goals and needs, something we assess through the aforementioned planning process. Once we've established an optimal risk level for each client, we then create a portfolio that places him at the correct point on the efficient frontier, [This is a method for balancing risk and reward].

All investment and real assets are analyzed, and recommendations are made to minimize the risk (volatility) associated with each client's target rate of return. Tax efficiency is taken into account in the appropriate use of tax-deferred accounts, careful management of gains and losses realized outside these accounts, and the use -- in concert with client's legal advisors -- of estate planning structures to minimize estate tax impacts.

Within each client's portfolios, a wide variety of investment tools are used to help meet his goals, ranging from traditional stock and bond investments to alternative asset classes such as commodities and real estate. More than one investment strategy can be used to achieve a given risk/reward mix, and a variety of client-specific factors help determine which is most appropriate. In addition, market conditions will affect which allocation is most attractively priced, helping guide decisions about the best asset mix at any given time.

While each client, and therefore each portfolio, is distinct, we do maintain model asset allocations as reference points for efficient portfolios at various points on the efficient frontier. We also run a series of discretionary portfolios for our clients who prefer to make the "big picture" investment decisions, but who have us manage the portfolio on a day to day basis.

Certain alternative investments carry significant risk and are not subject to the same regulatory oversight as mutual funds and other traditional investments.  For these reasons, access to alternative investments may be limited to investors who are designated as sophisticated, high-net-worth investors.
