At The Kolmer Wealth Management Group, we are a multi-generational team that continues to attract generations of client families in Pennsylvania and more than 20 other states. Proud and appreciative of the referrals we receive, our team shares a desire to help clients monetize their years of hard work and enjoy meaningful outcomes.
Now, in our 40th year, we find that a “new wave” of clients has found its way to our door. Many share an entrepreneurial spirit and – like us – are serious about money. On their behalf, we focus on family legacy planning, risk-managed investing, wealth-accumulation strategies, retirement planning, exit-planning strategies, tax-minimization and estate planning strategies, and liability management. With many of these areas often ignored by a previous advisor, we are devoted to addressing holes in clients’ financial pictures, as well as their goals.
Who do we serve? A diverse and financially astute clientele. They include successful owners of family-owned businesses (up to and through the sale of their enterprise), investment bankers, hedge fund managers and other busy executives, professors, musicians, commercial real estate professionals, and their families.
Whether they’re building wealth and a career, nearing retirement, or anticipate a key liquidity event, we work collaboratively internally and with clients to create immeasurable and consistent value. Delivering an exceptional measure of diligence and devotion, we are intentional and caring in our efforts.
Having managed clients’ money and emotion amid 1987, 2000, 2008 and 2020 volatility, we feel good knowing virtually all of those clients remain with us today. We believe that’s due in large part to our enlightened perspective on mitigating investment risk. Still, our focus remains on clients’ lives, not only their bottom lines. We feel good that they’ve “done well” during the Bull Market. Our clients have sent children to college, purchased homes, prospered in their careers, and worked tirelessly to achieve these milestones.
We are well aware that each client’s achievements bring wealth and expectations. Therefore, it is incumbent upon us to help manage that wealth responsibly and in the most respectful manner. Results and relationships matter to us – and especially, to clients who deserve our very best efforts.
At The Kolmer Wealth Management Group, we are a family serving other families. With a loyal and growing clientele that spans generations and the nation’s geography, we have a proud heritage and story that continue to be told. Both revolve around the values and relationships we’ve built with successful individuals and families.
Our father and colleague, Kevin Sr., founded our group – and our client associate, Lisa, has worked with him for more than three decades. Together, they developed a process and approach that puts clients at the center of multi-pronged strategies designed for them and them alone.
As brothers, we (Kevin Jr. and Chris) enjoy an incredibly close relationship. Considering each other to be “best friends,” our individual families work and play together. We believe that clients appreciate the familiarity of how we interact with each other – and with them.
Following in our father’s footsteps (Kevin Sr.) and walking beside him now, we continue to apply the lessons we were taught – about listening and learning from clients, handing sensitive matters with care, discretion and confidentiality, being honest and straightforward (even when suggestions may be difficult to hear), and above all, treating clients like they were members of our family.
We also have wonderful memories about our legacy as a team and family. In fact, Kevin Jr. sat on Santa’s lap as a child at our office holiday party – and then played the role of Santa himself 25 years later at the same office party (with many clients he grew up with).
Whether we work with clients at their kitchen tables, in our offices, by phone or WebEx, the ages and experiences of our team members allow us to relate well to clients, their spouses, grown children and elderly parents. Our ages also help ensure the continuity of thought and consistency of service we believe each client family deserves.
At the end of the day, we consider ourselves to be “good people” serving other “good people” whom we admire for their achievements, ambitions and examples to others. Our devotion to clients extends to our outstanding support people, some who’ve been with us for decades. When clients and their families call, we recognize their voices and most importantly, are cognizant of their needs – recalling recent conversations and efforts that allow for a more focused team approach. We feel privileged to assist our clients and of the manner in which we do.
At The Kolmer Wealth Management Group, our planning-based approach drives everything we do for clients. From frequent and friendly conversations with both spouses (whenever possible), we can help clients “see around corners” to prepare for what comes next, financially and emotionally. In discussing their families, we remind clients that part of our job is helping them leave memories, as well as money – that it’s important to find joy along the path to meaningful financial outcomes.
From the outset of each relationship, we help clients explore and prioritize their most cherished goals for themselves, and the people they love. By asking questions and listening more than talking, we help them identify the purpose of their wealth, so that the strategies we develop can help them feel comfortable in its pursuit. We may ask, “What’s the goal of having so much money? Why are you selling the business? What mistakes have you made, that you’d like to avoid? How can we help you going forward? And why have you come to us?”
Rather than being a one-time event, our questions continue over time, to address what clients envision in the near future and later, for their children. Often, we “recognize and recommend” when opportunities and situations present themselves – suggesting, for example, refinancing existing debt, reviewing insurance protection, or updating estate-related documents.
Before we allocate a single dollar of a client’s portfolio, we examine how their assets, liabilities, and overall wealth are structured. We also look at how clients get compensated, as many receive large bonus payments at different times throughout the year. In those cases, we may focus on income generation to smooth cash flow and offer securities-based lending through Bank of America, N.A.
Following discussions about risk vs. reward, we build a framework from which we formulate their investment strategy.
What guides us?
1. Kevin Sr.’s advice: He has taught us the importance of consistent investment returns. That long-term results matter most. And that trust can only be earned over time.
2, Our firm’s Chief Investment Office and global research capabilities. Rather than only select individual stocks, we follow macro allocation strategies that typically account for more than 75% of an investor’s success.
Specifically, we utilize investment managers carefully selected for their track records, investment styles and reputations, and subject to the firm’s due diligence. In addition, we offer ESG and sustainable opportunities, as well as alternative investments* (including hedge funds, as well as private equity and real estate) as a way to help clients with large concentrated positions mitigate market volatility.
We should point out that ours is not a set-it and forget-it investment approach. We track progress toward mutually agreed-upon goals, with adjustments driven by changes in clients’ lives and the markets. We also explain what real outcomes look like. Above all, we help clients avoid “timing the markets” and making emotional decisions.
At The Kolmer Wealth Management Group, our concept of providing superior wealth management is predicated on having a genuine, ongoing appreciation of you – what keeps you at night, and what gets you up each morning. As our client, you can expect that we will:
• Strive to earn your trust. Regardless of what drives you, we are driven to be your “first and only call” when any issue arises – from liquidity to lending, from retirement and investment planning to intergenerational wealth planning.
• Work to prevent you from making bad financial decisions, at the wrong time. During periods of personal difficulty and volatility, we try to act as a caring resource. We are also straightforward and willing to act as a buffer in challenging family situations.
• Try to limit the number of clients we serve – to do more for each. It feels good to demonstrate our sincerity and dependability. Clients have our cell numbers, because we make ourselves available 24/7. It’s just one aspect of our boutique-like, white-glove service model – designed to help clients make fact-based decisions based on the strategy they’ve agreed upon.
• Do our best work for clients whose needs grow in complexity. Putting our heads and hearts together, we enjoy meeting challenges, resolving problems and helping clients continue to focus on the people and passions in their lives. The more you ask us to do, the more value we can deliver.
• Look forward to meeting your family to address a special situation, or celebrate with them at a special occasion. In a broader context, we will examine a family’s longevity, vision of the future, and may discuss long-term care, when to take Social Security, legacy goals, and those of individual stakeholders.
• Do not believe in showing clients how smart we are. Instead, we prefer to distill facts and figures into easily understood recommendations. By educating clients, they are better able to follow the strategy we’ve created and agreed upon.
• Blend our investment management with tax awareness in a way many advisors do not. Especially important as tax regulations change, we maintain a watchful eye on clients’ tax consequences throughout the year – allowing for benefits to be realized earlier, on an ongoing basis. Experience tells us we can save clients more with tax-minimization and estate planning strategies than we can with a stock recommendation. To align our efforts, we also can work closely with clients, their CPAs and attorneys.
• Draw upon the vast resources of Bank of America, N.A. and Merrill. Whether you’re looking to purchase a home, a car, refinance a mortgage, consolidate your banking, or meet with a trust specialist, we will coordinate matters on your behalf. We will also meet with your CPA and attorney to align a tax-minimization or estate planning strategy, or simply to discuss the titling of documents.
As a close family and a high-caliber team of professionals, we are fully invested in assisting clients and welcome the opportunity to serve you, as well. It would be our pleasure to help you brighten your financial picture and inform your perspective – so that you can enjoy the people and passions in your life.
