At Weatherly & Associates, we’ve fulfilled our clients’ financial needs for decades by summoning and structuring – to each client’s individual needs – our firm’s vast resources with unbiased judgment and personal warmth. We’re here to preserve and grow our clients’ wealth for the long-term and in the process relieve them of unnecessary stress or worry. We have achieved this by being thoughtful, analytical and decisive in our advice and guidance, yet sensitive to each client’s needs and concerns.

Steve Weatherly, our founder and lead financial advisor, built our practice one client at a time – by meeting his duty to put clients’ needs first and foremost. We now work for multiple generations of families, retired couples, widows and our clients’ growing and adult children. Our strategies are crafted to optimize intergenerational wealth early and throughout each client relationship, not when events in life demand hasty decisions.

The most critical thing we can do for a new client is to earn their trust. We do this by asking thoughtful questions and listening carefully to their goals for today and ambitions for tomorrow. We appreciate the opportunity to help you in similar fashion.

Planning-Based Approach

As proponents of client education, we dispel myths almost daily.

A common one is that “planning is a one-time event”. Not true. Superior wealth management demands a planning-based approach that is ongoing. This helps us address changes in your income, liquidity needs, risk tolerance, time horizon, life’s personal challenges, and the financial decisions you face each year.

Our initial discovery process gives us insight about the values that inspire you, your most cherished goals and your greatest fears. After we know where you stand financially and what you envision for yourself and loved ones, we can craft strategies that are specific to you and your family. These may involve wealth accumulation, income generation, or asset distribution to help you sustain a lifestyle or leave a legacy.

In meeting our role of serving your best interests, it’s incumbent on us to develop an intimate understanding of how you view your wealth and the world. We will encourage you to ask questions: “When can I retire and how well? Will I outlive my savings? Do I have enough to cover my needs, pursue my dreams and handle the unexpected? How can I provide for my children without compromising my retirement lifestyle?”

Using our firm’s sophisticated retirement outcome probabilistic tools, we can analyze the likelihood of you achieving your goals and desired lifestyle. We can also pinpoint what you’ll need to save now and later to provide cash flow or income (adjusted for inflation) for your lifetime.

Similarly to a worthwhile long-term investment, we measure our success by bringing you the consistent value that can endure for generations.

Investment Philosophy

How do you define risk?

We have two critical responsibilities. The first is to inform you about the role of risk in your portfolio. The second is to help you determine the level of risk required to help you achieve your goals (accounting for inflation and other factors).

Having seen many investors “chase performance” and “trade on emotion,” we try to help clients avoid the mistakes they might make on their own. How? By establishing a mutually agreed-upon investment strategy, explaining its importance, and each client’s role in following it.

 We also believe:

  • Business owners take risks on a daily basis. The last thing you may want is to create unnecessary investment risk.

  • Diversification can be an effective way to dampen portfolio volatility and moderate risk. Using insights gleaned from decades in the industry, we can build your portfolio with strategies that may include equities, taxable and tax-advantage fixed income and for qualified investors, hedge funds and private equity.

  • Being long-term shareholders of well-known companies with solid management and a history of growing dividends can continue to be a wise course of action. To identify companies with these and other characteristics, we use internal and external research and the firm’s due diligence. Selecting outside investment managers is not a decision we take lightly.

  • We do well for our own families by doing well for our clients’ families. Our clients rely on our financial knowledge and “know how” to help them enjoy positive financial outcomes. The referrals we’ve received over many years tell us we’re doing our jobs well.

In order to help preserve your wealth across generations, we can coordinate with your CPA and attorney to help align efforts for tax minimization and estate planning strategies, family partnerships and other ways to pass along assets in a tax-efficient manner. We can also conduct insurance and risk management reviews, as well as educate you on gifting rules.

Additionally, we can offer you access to services that can help you more easily manage your business finances and your personal wealth, including cash and liability management as well as lending strategies through Bank of America, N.A.  You can also expect that we may:

  • Help you prepare for circumstances that you anticipate and those you don’t.

  • Meet at your home or office – or wherever you’re most comfortable having a thoughtful discussion.

  • Meet with your children, grandchildren and/or parents – with your permission – to create open lines of communication during the eventual, often emotional, transition from one generation to another.
