The Forman Rial Group works with a select group of clients largely comprised of prominent business owners, entrepreneurs, private equity investors and corporate executives.  The affluent client who deals with complex financial situations deserve high-touch service. Financial guidance for a new generation of business leaders
Many of the clients we work with started, spun-off or acquired other companies either to complement their existing business or to enter new industries. They are also frequent investors in other businesses, either through direct placement or through private equity and/or venture capital funds.

Our team can offer advice and guidance on equity investments and compensation, as well as map out the current landscape of your holdings. We can also develop strategies for allocating your various income streams to fund your expenses, portfolios and other priorities.

Our team works with clients from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. Many clients are second- and third-generation family members who have either started or expanded businesses in the United States. We offer a highly experienced financial worldview based on:

  • Financial stability—Merrill generally acts as custodian for assets about which we advise and guide you or help you manage. These assets are held in the United States unless you instruct otherwise. You can expect that your assets will be available to you when you need them.
  • Maximum privacy—Our team adheres to applicable American privacy laws and regulations, as well as the stringent privacy policies of the firm. Only with your permission will we discuss your accounts with your family members or other trusted advisors, such as your accountant or attorney.

Business leaders often have significant amounts of their wealth invested in control or restricted stock. Because of the large number of corporate and entrepreneurial clients we serve, our team has extensive experience helping clients manage these assets. Managing lump-sum distributions

Through employer-sponsored retirement plans, deferred equity compensation or private equity distributions, clients can receive large blocks of stock acquired at a low-cost basis. We offer to help clients manage these holdings through:

  • Tax minimizing strategies for employer stock distributions
  • Rollovers* into IRAs or other retirement accounts, or trusts through Bank of America
  • Wealth transfer, gifting or other philanthropic strategies

Guidance for special liquidity events

When clients receive significant cash payments from the sale of a business or other assets, investment payouts or inheritance, our team helps them answer the question, "What now?" We can illustrate how large cash positions can be invested to support your overall wealth structure and to pursue your goals. Prior to divesture, our team can offer strategies to help minimize the impact of taxes on any proceeds.

Depending on your financial circumstances, needs, and goals, you may choose to roll over to an IRA or convert to a Roth IRA, roll over a 401(k) from a prior employer to a 401(k) at your new employer, take a distribution, or leave the account where it is. Each choice may offer different investments and services, fees and expenses, withdrawal options, required minimum distributions, tax treatment (particularly with reference to employer stock), and provide different protection from creditors and legal judgments.
