The Jay Bergeson Wealth Management Group serves a diverse set of clients by focusing on their priorities, ambitions, and personalities. With our strong background in behavioral finance, we examine each client’s past experiences with investing, their understanding of risk, and their desires for themselves and their families.  Our process involves a disciplined, planning-based approach in which we account for dozens of factors before constructing a highly personalized wealth and investment strategy to help clients look ahead, and move forward.

Talking to clients frequently, we discuss issues as far-ranging as diversifying concentrated stock positions, thoughtful generational wealth transfer, purchasing a vacation home, financing a business expansion, generating retirement income, or caring for an aging parent.  These real life situations are why we remind clients to reach out at any time – for our recommendations, or simply a second opinion. 

By helping clients define and articulate what is most important to them, we are able to attend to those things within our control and rise above the distractions of the day-to-day.  The outcome is a calm, consistent wealth planning and investment experience that results in clients having the time to focus on what really matters.

In our more than 45 years of combined wealth management experience, the best way we know to provide successful outcomes is by building trusted relationships.  While you may feel uneasy when faced with a new situation, we understand that life transitions can actually create opportunities, and a fresh perspective can reveal unexpected benefits.

  • Meet you where you are.  Whether sitting in your home or office – in Seattle or anywhere else – we uphold our mission to create time for clients.  Before anything else, we will listen and learn from you.  Then, we can share our personal experiences and professional insights.  Seeing matters from your point of view is critical to the effectiveness of the disciplined planning-based approach that defines our offering.
  • Be honest and transparent.  Earning and maintaining your trust is core to our effectiveness, and the foundation of our wealth planning offering.  We clearly show and explain what you’ll pay for our services in the first meeting, and make recommendations based upon your unique situation.
  • Use our deep knowledge of behavioral finance and the outstanding research of Merrill to construct, implement, and monitor a highly customized investment strategy for you that incorporates multiple asset classes to help reduce risk.*  Our investment philosophy is based upon the premise that, given the chance, most inventors will allow emotion to derail any thoughtful investment strategy.  The strategies and portfolios we employ are designed to remove emotion from the investment process, allowing the time-tested tenants of asset allocation and diversification to allow your portfolio to meet your goals.

What Clients Can Expect

Our purpose is to handle the things that otherwise prohibit clients from being with their families, their work, or their pursuits.  We exist to help safeguard your wealth and help ensure that your financial decisions contribute to a prosperous and fulfilling life.  We achieve this by taking your qualitative goals and dreams and creating quantitative output in the form of a cash flow plan and investment strategy. 

You can also expect that we:

  • Will encourage your call for any financially related reason.  As resourceful and responsive advisors, we are here to help you plan and prepare for what will – and what may – lie ahead.  We also welcome your call for a second opinion.  In fact, we remind clients that no matter the subject, if you don’t know whom to call, call us.
  • Are process driven.  In our initial meeting with you, we ask questions, listen, and learn all we can.  In the second meeting, we provide thoughts about your goals, concerns, and any “missing pieces” we may see in your financial picture. In our third discussion, we outline the investment strategy, cash flow projection, and other wealth planning recommendations that are appropriate for you, based upon what we have learned from you.  These suggestions are never foregone conclusions or “cookie-cutter” solutions.  Your strategy is unique to you, as is our approach.
  • Are “paper and pad” advisors who take copious notes and are extremely detail oriented.  Your circumstances and goals will evolve over time.  By staying current with you, we can more adeptly help you adjust to new challenges and opportunities.
  • Will help optimize both sides of your balance sheet.  If you’re considering a home purchase (for you or your child), paying for college, expanding your business, or financing an acquisition, we utilize the world-class credit and lending capabilities of Bank of America.**  Clients are not one-dimensional, so what we offer them cannot be either.
  • Can coordinate closely with your other professional advisors.  It is critical that all components of your wealth plan work in harmony, and we make a point of including clients accounting and legal advisors to assist in tax minimization and estate planning strategies. It is common practice for us to accompany clients to another professional advisor’s office in times of need, and we believe clients deserve our advice and guidance at all times, especially when emotions can compromise thoughtful decisions.

A Dynamic Clientele

We assist a diverse group of individuals, families, and institutions that spans life stages and geographies.  Clients include those looking for help as they start their families to those who have traded their seat in the boardroom for one in the golf cart (where in many cases, they contemplate their next venture). 

Specifically, we serve active and retired thought leaders at well-known private and public companies, serial entrepreneurs, attorneys, physicians, and multiple generations of families.  What they all share is the lack of time to plan for how to maximize another 15 or 25 years of future earnings, account for all of the implications of exercising their stock options, or consider the nuances of creating a legacy for generations to come.  

A vast majority of clients were introduced to us at key points of transition when a personal or professional event called for an added layer of sophisticated wealth management.  Most have come from a previous advisor that may not have maintained frequent enough communication or been able to keep pace with the fluidity and motion of their financial needs.  We enjoy working with clients we admire, looking forward with them, and sharing in their optimism.  By getting to know clients well, we find that like us, they care about as much about achieving personal success as they do about giving back to their communities.
